Welcome to STC (Sven Tapp Consulting Ltd.), where business intelligence meets human insight. I’m Sven Tapp, the founder and managing director.

Over the past two decades, my career has taken me across continents and industries, from the vibrant business world of Japan to Canada’s dynamic corporate environment. With a background that spans academia, TV shopping, e-commerce, and strategy roles in telecommunications and video gaming, my journey into finance and business intelligence was as unexpected as it has been rewarding.

It all began with a curiosity about the human aspects of business, a passion cultivated during my studies in organizational behavior. This curiosity quickly became a cornerstone of my professional identity. 

My first business role after graduate school involved leading a profit center within one of Japan’s major direct marketing companies. Frustrated by the lack of useful information to manage my business, I took it upon myself to analyze and create my own data assets. This initiative not only improved our business line but also got the attention of the president, who assigned me to establish the company’s first BI team—a pattern that would repeat throughout my career. In three of the four major companies in my career, leaders assigned me to create and lead teams where none existed before.

What sets me apart is not just my ability to harness technology, but my focus on business needs and human behavior. I see BI not just as a technical discipline but as a bridge to understanding deeper business dynamics and human interactions. My approach combines analytical rigor with a nuanced understanding of what managers need to make informed decisions, grounded in my personal experience as a business leader.
