Microsoft SSRS BI System Implementation
TELUS Business Solutions relied on a centralized corporate data warehouse for performance reporting that was tailored for TELUS Consumer Solutions. This system was inefficient for enterprise account analysis, as it did not group individual devices to enterprise accounts and inaccurately tracked sales by channel. Consequently, weekly performance reports required a full day to prepare, delaying delivery to leadership until Tuesday morning.
To address these deficiencies, Sven designed a data warehouse architecture, leading the BI team in the development of a new reporting system based on Microsoft SQL Server specifically for the Business Solutions division. He implemented enhancements to consolidate device data into enterprise accounts and corrected sales channel tracking. The system also featured a self-service analytical layer that enabled marketing and sales teams to directly access needed data, reducing reliance on the BI team.
The new system automated the generation of weekly reports, now delivered by 9AM on Monday, improving timeliness and accuracy. This efficiency allowed for a reduction in the BI team size from five to four analysts while significantly boosting productivity and reducing overtime. Sven's innovative leadership earned him the TELUS Pinnacle Award, recognizing his "courage to innovate."
